Tourist-y

First off, for this week, I only had 3 days at work. Which sucks because I will be receiving less salary. It's however nice because I get to roam around PCB a little.

Second, our new apartment does NOT have WiFi. Which sucks. Good thing the place itself is nice and homey compared to the last one.

Anyway, as you can probably tell, I'm just using mobile internet to post this entry. I bought a Verizon MiFi (hotspot) and well, being a Filipino, I assumed it's unlimited when they said that it's for a month. Silly me spent a month's worth ($60) of Internet in a little less than 2 days. So now I am rushing on writing this.

Just wanted to share to you all that I was in a tourist mode yesterday. I went to 2 of the most interesting looking builidings I have ever seen here at PCB...

Wonderworks and Ripley's Believe It Or Not!

Will share more about it next time! I'm excited to head to Tampa and Orlando FL next week!

Watch out for my adventure posts! ;)

BOOK: Paper Towns

"That's always seemed so ridiculous to me, that people would want to be around someone because they're pretty... It's like picking your breakfast cereals based on color instead of taste."

"Paper Towns" by John Green is what I am currently reading. I haven't finished it yet and I am only halfway through the book but I am loving it

At first, I was hesitant to buy or read anything by this author. Why? Because his name is known by everyone! I felt like I didn't want to read a book that everyone I know loves. I mean, everyone has read "The Fault in Our Stars"... except me. I'm stubborn like that.

But before I left Manila, I decided to buy a book he wrote...only, a book that I know not everyone has read. I've been hearing a lot about "Looking For Alaska" and "An Abundance of Katherines" so i didn't buy those... Haha. I got "Paper Towns".

The characters, as far as I've read, are wonderful. Margo is type of person I want to be. She's not afraid of adventure. Not to mention the fact that I want a Q in my life as well... one who's been secretly loving me since we were little. But since I am old now, I'd let go of that dream. Haha.

True to their words, the people I know who've read his books were correct when they said that John Green's books are easy to read. Simple yet there's a depth to it. I love authors who are able to do that. It's because some are quite preposterous when it comes to their writing but the story's just bleh. You know what I mean?

Anyway, I haven't finished it, but I totally recommend it as a light read to everyone. Just to take things off your mind like tiredness, anger and boredom, go and read it. ;)

Well, I'll update this when I finish the book! Gotta go to bed now. Good night!

Happy Easter Sunday!

For almost a month now, I've never gotten the chance to go to church for two reasons: (1) I don't know where our chapel is here in Panama City Beach (PCB) and (2) I have no means of going there.

But yesterday, I had unexpectedly enjoyed my Easter Sunday for two reasons as well: (1) I was able to attend church and (2) I was invited to an Easter dinner.

The missionaries here in PCB have called me on my phone last week and asked if I wanted a ride going to church every Sunday. Of course, as embarrassing or as shy as I was, I said yes. Thankfully, they found a family who was willing to come pick me up on their way to church so as I am able to attend as well. I couldn't have been happier.

My very first time to attend church here happens to be Easter Sunday. So it's quite more special than it would have been. I dressed up in pastel color to go with the occasion and funnily enough, almost all the girls at church were wearing the same color as I was. I felt like I belonged. Hahaha.

Good morning!

Dress: Forever 21 | Tights: Rue 21 | Flats: American Eagle
I wore yellow to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ. It felt like the perfect color. Like sunshine and light and birth.

But of course, I had to wear tights because I'm still not that used to the cold weather here. I couldn't bear the thought of bare legs in this weather.

The chapel here at Panama City Beach
I was picked up at the apartment by Sister Patty Rivera and her daughter Marie. They were really nice. I am and forever will be grateful for them for having exerted effort and time to pick me up and let me attend Sunday services.

Marie is only 2 years younger than me but she's sweet and seem more mature than me (for one, she's the one driving whereas me, I have an expired driver's license in my wallet). She took the time to walk me around chapel and ask in which Sunday classes do I want to attend. Of course, being the new girl and not knowing anyone around, I just followed her like a lost puppy.

After all the services, they drove me home again. But before parting ways, Marie asked me if I had plans that evening and if not, I can go to their home and have an Easter dinner with them, the missionaries and John (another nice guy I met at the chapel that morning). I said yes, of course.

At around 6 in the evening, she picked me up and we drove to their home. It was such a lovely house. I didn't take a picture because I felt it rude to do so and I was to shy to ask for permission. I was surprised to see that there were more people than she let me into thinking. Her aunt, uncle and cousins were there too. I felt like intruding a family occasion. I was glad that I wasn't the only one out of the Rivera family that was there.

For the first time ever since I was little, they gave me an egg to decorate. I haven't done so in years and it amazed me that they use food coloring and Sharpie pens to decorate Easter eggs here rather than Crayola which we used when I was little.

The missionaries were creative enough to make little egg people. I, on the other hand, became intimidated and just wrote a simple greeting:

Like I said, everyone else's eggs were very creative! We even ended up having a storyline for it. It made us all laugh. ♥

That evening, I had the best home-cooked dinner I had since I got here in America. I was so grateful to the Rivera family that I almost cried! I was also grateful that I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ  of Latter-day Saints because no matter where I may be or how much of a stranger I am, other members of the church will look out for me and actually care for me. This unfamiliar world called Florida has suddenly felt like home a little.

Brother Rivera cooked the dinner which was beyond delicious. I never realized until now how much Americans celebrate Easter. It's a great holiday for everyone, it seemed. Lots of stories were shared over dinner, egg painting, egg hunting, chocolate and gift giving. Wow. It felt like Christmas!

Dinner: ham, mashed potatoes, broccoli and cauli flowers, hot buns

Dessert: carrot cake and chocolate chip cookies

I can't blame them, really. It's fun to be around bunnies and eggs and all the pastel colors. But let's not forget that it's the resurrection of Jesus Christ that we're all celebrating Easter.

I'm not sure where all the eggs and bunnies derived from but it's fun. Glad I was able to experience that!

I started out March great by traveling on my own from Manila to here in Florida. I ended the month with this celebration and in the presence of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ as I renewed my covenants. ♥

Here's to hoping for a much awesome April!

After Work Shenanigans

The thing about the sun setting here at around 7PM gives me the illusion that I still get home early (even if I usually get home a 5:30PM). It feels like I can still turn on my laptop, write in my blog, watch a movie and Skype with my family and friends back at home.

However, what I don't like about it is that when the sky does get dark, it's already 8PM and by 9PM I am supposed to be asleep already. So you see my point? I only get at least 1-2 hours of actual night before I sleep. It's really frustrating!

But, I do find something to do every once in a while: be vain

I believe that a camera can make pretty much anyone smile no matter how hard things are for them or how complicated the situation they're in are. In my case, I do smile still even when I am so tired that my eyeballs feel like rolling into the sockets and not coming out right again...ever.

So the other day, as I waited for a movie to buffer completely, I turned on my iPhone camera (I don't have a digital camera or SLR with me. Bummer) and just took photos of my somewhat tired and completely messed up self.

To my surprise, though, everyone at home thought that I looked pretty and had make-up on... which I didn't. My little sister even commented that I should stay here in America because I look prettier when I'm here.

Nope. Too bad I believe I'm pretty everywhere! Hahahaha! So I am definitely coming back home to Manila! ♥

I think my laptop's screen light shall be thanked for the awesome lighting. It gives the illusion that I'm somewhat underwater.

Anyway, I wish to learn how to apply liquid eyeliner on myself. I don't know how I can actually draw with pen and paper but not with make-up and face. It's ironic. For instance, my sister can draw a proper cat eye but can't draw a straight line on paper. So much for being artsy.

     Have a great day!
